Condolence: How well I remember beautiful Barbara from both my Hicks parent days, and my Hicks teaching days. Where did the time go? Barbara was an inspiration to everyone with her engaging and innovative teaching. How fortunate the teachers who worked with her as she moved into administration. I still treasure the holiday photo ornament she orchestrated when my daughter was in Barbara's third grade classroom. This year when it goes on the tree will be a bittersweet moment......we are grateful to have known her as a teacher and as an inspiring colleague.

Condolence: Barbara always made you feel that you were the most important person in the world when she spoke with you. She would lean in, look you in the eye and her whole demeanor conveyed warmth and concern. She was a true inspiration. I'm a better educator for having worked with her.

Condolence: I am quite sadden at Barbara’s passing. My condolences to your family. Barbara was a superb person and educator. For a newly arrived principal in Westport, she was a fantastic, supportive, and guiding colleague and was always a joy to be with. In her work as a principal, she consistently first thought of and talked of the needs of the children and community of Long Lots as we discussed the myriad issues which would arise in our work as Westport administrators, and she approached her daily interactions with everyone with warmth, focus, reflection, and a terrific sense of humor. It was an honor to have known and worked with her.

Condolence: We knew Barbara via her (too infrequent!) visits to our Niantic home. She was truly elegant, a gifted conversationalist, and a privilege to know -- even if only casually.
We especially enjoyed hearing her chat about foreign travels with our dear friend, Ted, and all of us who came within the beachfront circle of acquaintances felt honored to have her among that group. She elevated the discourse from "boisterously bland" to "sincerely substantive" and we truly wish we had gotten to see her more often. She has become the number one topic of fond remembrances since receiving the tragic news of her passing.

Condolence: Barbara was a true professional in every way! She taught us parents who loyally served on her PTA, that it wasn't just about your child; it was about every child! I will always remember her smiling face and reassuring words when things didn't go as planned for one of my kids! She was one of the best Principals EVER! Rest in peace Barbara..you will be missed.
