Obituary for Dorothy J. Wnuk (Ursin)

Dorothy Josephine (Ursin) Wnuk, 84 of Ellington, loving wife of the late Andrew M. Wnuk, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, August 11, 2018 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. Dorothy was born in Tolland, CT on August 3, 1934, daughter of the late Julius and Ottilia (Horvath) Ursin. Dorothy had a caring heart and a generous and giving spirit. Her home was always a warm and welcoming place for family members, her dear friends, and friends of her children, who would often join her for extended stays. Dorothy was actively involved in her community. She was a lifetime member of the Ladies of the Moose Lodge 1574 in Tolland; she was actively involved in the American Legion Post 14 and enjoyed social activities at the Italian TKB and the PAC Clubs in Rockville. Dorothy took great delight in traveling with her sister Betty Lou, especially visiting her sister Marguerite in Florida. Other memorable journeys brought her to Bermuda, Hawaii, South Carolina, California, Las Vegas, Dollywood in Tennessee, and a cruise through the Caribbean. No recollection of her vivacious spirit would be complete without the image of her on the back of her son Paul's motorcycle, roaring down the highway with her hair flying in the wind, on a mother-and-son road trip from upstate New York to Ellington. Closer to home, Dorothy would also frequently join her son Andy on the back of his motorcycle, running errands and keeping social engagements as he provided her with one of the more unusual chauffeur services in Ellington. Time spent with family and friends was what mattered most to her. She loved getting together for special occasions, holidays, and even simple backyard barbeques. She especially enjoyed spending time with her elementary school friend Margret Williams and her longtime friend Betty Tweetie. Dorothy is survived by five of her children: daughter, Andrea Bachiocchi of Ashford; sons, Andrew M. Wnuk Jr. and his spouse Lita of Willington, Michael Wnuk and his spouse Tina of Portland, Thomas Wnuk and his spouse Ken Aspell of Brentwood, CA, and Paul Wnuk and his spouse Jackie of West Chazy, NY; daughters-in-law, Jill Wnuk of Bolton and Laurie Chesanek of Ellington; her sisters: Marguerite Bacon of FL., and Betty Lou Bey of Tillson, NY; 13 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins. Dorothy was predeceased by her son, Joseph R. Wnuk of Bolton; sisters, Johanna (Ursin) Gelinas and Lillian (Ursin) Estell; brothers, Julius Ursin, John Ursin, Michael Ursin, and Roy Ursin. Dorothy will like to extend her heartfelt gratitude to her daughter-in-law Lita for caring for her through this difficult journey. Dorothy took great comfort from Lita's care. "You made me feel better on the days I felt lost". The family would also like to extend many thanks for the compassionate care given to their mother from Andrea Wheelock from Masonicare Home Health & Hospice. Relatives and friends may join the family at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St., Rockville, CT 06066 on Wednesday, August 15, 2018 from 12-3. A Funeral Home service will take place at 3:00 pm. Burial will be held privately at a later date at St. Bernard's Cemetery, Rockville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, P.O. Box 1000 Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142. For online condolences, please visit www.pietrasfuneralhome.com
