Peter J. Keenan, Jr, 79, of Broad Brook, CT died unexpectedly on Sunday, June 24th, 2018. He was born on October 3, 1938 in Ireland to the late Peter J. and Bridget (Quinn) Keenan, Sr. Peter moved to the United States in 1964 and was very proud of his citizenship. He played Hurling and Gaelic Football in Ireland, Hartford, and New York. He returned to Ireland many times over the years to attend The All Ireland Finals and to visit family and friends. He was active with the Manchester Road Race, having organized and overseen crowd control for 40 years. He was a follower and coached the Hartford GAA for many years. He worked as an Iron worker with Local 15 and was passionate of his native country. He helped build the Irish-American Home in Glastonbury where he spent time watching the traditional Irish sport of Hurling. Peter is survived by his beloved wife Frances (Matulis) Keenan; his son, Peter Keenan, III and his wife Beth; his granddaughters, Shannon and Isabella, his sister Angela; nephews, nieces, and many extended family members. Relatives and Friends may join the family on Friday, June 29, 2018 between 4 to 7 p.m. at the Bassinger & Dowd Funeral Home, 37 Gardner Street, East Windsor, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at 10 a.m. at St. Catherine Church, Broad Brook, CT. Burial will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery , Broad Brook, CT.
