Diane “Di” J. Kupferschmid, 80, of Vernon, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Manchester Memorial Hospital. She was born August 31, 1937 to the late Alfred and Lena (Meyer) Kupferschmid. Di worked as a nurse’s aide at Manchester Memorial Hospital for 37 years, 7 months and 15 days, retiring in 1994. She was a very giving, hard working and detailed woman. Gardening and animals were her joy in life. She had many beautiful gardens which brought forth prize winning produce and flowers. Within the last months she committed her life to the Lord and became a member of the Apostolic Christian Church.
She is survived by her niece, Ernestine Durell and nephews Gene (Ellen), Stuart, Wayne (Marcia), Danny (Terry) and Dean (Joanne) Kupferschmid, many great nieces, nephews and cousins. Di had many dear friends, Betty Luginbuhl, Lillian Luginbuhl and her children; Janice (Arno) Groot, Bruce (Karen), Barry (Glenna), Christian Luginbuhl and Nancy Lockwood, Warren and Bonnie Zahner, Dan and MaryLou Goric, Abbie and John Jeffries, Doug and Jane Schneider, Jeff and Carole Gerber and their families, two wonderful neighbors; Tom Gould and Aimee Fortin; Ellen Clark and her family who were so good to her. A special thanks to Dr. Karen Cadman (also Di’s favored friend) and her staff for their compassionate care for many years. Di leaves her faithful companion, Chelse to the wonderful home of Abbie and her family.
Relatives and friends may join the family on Thursday, June 28, 2018 from 9:00 – 10:30am at The Apostolic Christian Church, 34 Middle Butcher Rd., Ellington, CT. A funeral service will take place at 10:30am at the church. Burial will follow at Ellington Center Cemetery.
