Obituary for John M. King

John M. King
John (Jack) King, 77, of Pompano Beach, FL formerly of Ellington, CT passed away peacefully on May 8, 2018. He was born on November 15, 1940 to the late John and Helen B. King. Jack grew up in the Elmwood section of West Hartford where he met and married the love of his life, JoAnn, on August 8th, 1964. Jack & JoAnn lived in Newington and East Hartford before settling their family in Ellington in 1978. He proudly served in the US Air Force from 1957-1961, with an honorable discharge. Truck Driving was his life, being employed by First National Supermarkets, Mashkin Freight Lines, Sure Fine Foods and Park Trucking of East Hartford, CT. Always a proud Teamster of Local 559, he retired in 1999. In 2000 Jack became a legal resident of Florida, his favorite place to be, in the warm sunshine with his many friends who were like family. Jack had a wonderful sense of humor and you always knew you would have a good laugh when spending time with him. There were many activities Jack enjoyed throughout his life including, boating, camping, working on all the families cars and trucks, prepping cars for the kids to race at Riverside, dancing, casinos and his lifelong hobby of going to tag sales and selling his treasures at flea markets. Jack was greatly loved by many in Connecticut and Florida and will be sadly missed. He lived his life to the fullest and had no regrets. Jack is survived by his children, Susan King of Vernon, John King of Stafford, Linda & John Dobitsky of Stafford, Mary-Ann & Steven Dombek of Tolland; His grandchildren, Jacqueline & Eric, Dylan, Lindsay, Matthew and Madison. He is predeceased by his wife JoAnn M. King. Relatives and friends may join the family on Friday, May 11, 2018 between 4-6:30pm with a Funeral Home Service at 6:30pm at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect Street, Rockville, CT.
