Obituary for Allen "Scuffy" Philipp

Allen “Scuffy” “Flip” Philipp, 95, of Tolland, beloved husband of Carmella “Bea” (Daigle) Philipp, passed away on Monday, March 26, 2018. He was born June 20, 1922 in Rockville, son of the late Oscar and Bertha (Weller) Philipp. He was a graduate of Rockville High School. He retired as a Commander from the U. S. Navy; he was a pilot during WWII. He previously worked for Nelson Freight Way, Zenk Trucking, owned Flip’s package store, and retired from CT Light & Power. He worked for Tire Town after his retirement until the time of his passing. He was an avid UCONN Women’s basketball fan and enjoyed playing cards and his home in Maine. Besides his loving wife of almost 70 years Carmella, he is survived by his children Donna Philipp, Lynne Martin, Michael Philipp and his wife Shelly, and Susan Philipp. Allen is also survived by his grandchildren Adam, Brianna, Jeffrey Martin and his daughter Liah, James, Jackielou Barnes, Jessica and her husband Drew, Jasmine, and Kaitlyn Honea, as well as his “other children” nephew Gary Philipp and his wife Paula and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Norman R. Philipp. Relatives and friends may join the family on Saturday, March 31, 2018 from 2-4 pm with a memorial service to follow at 4 pm at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St., Rockville. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, the United Cerebral Palsy or the American Cancer Society.
