Obituary for Margaret Mary Britner (Swatik)

Margaret Mary Britner of Waterford, passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, November 11, 2017. She was an amazing 97 years old. She was the daughter of the late Joseph A. and Mary E. (Lopatovsky) Swatik. Margaret was raised and educated in Stafford Springs, CT. She graduated from the Stafford High School Class of 1937. She graduated from the American Institute of Banking and continued in her career as a bank teller with Peoples Savings Bank in Rockville/Vernon for 15 years. She was a resident of Rockville for 45 years where she brought up her four children and a resident of Naples, Florida for 12 years. She was a resident of Waterford since 2001. She will always be remembered for being a dedicated fan of the Boston Red Sox and the UCONN Women’s basketball teams. Margaret was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Paul’s Church in Waterford. She is survived by her daughters Janet Catino and husband, Leo of Edgartown, MA, Lorraine DeCarli and her partner Frank Cirioni of Nantic, CT (who she always referred to as her “adopted son”), son George Pollio of Flagler Beach, FL, stepson Terry Britner and wife Renee of Vernon, stepdaughters Carol (Richards) Sullivan of Enfield, CT, Ann (Richards) McLaughlin of East Hampton, CT, and daughter-in-law Joanne Pollio of Somers, CT as well as 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She also leaves her sister-in-law and dearest friend Connie Swatik of Stafford Springs, and many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, stepchildren, step grandchildren, and step great grandchildren. Besides her husbands (Seraphen Pollio, Robert Richards, and Edward Britner), she is predeceased by her son Richard Pollio, her granddaughter Laura Pollio, her sister Ann Hurchala, her brothers John Swatik, Joseph Swatik, and Stephen Swatik, and her nephew Robert Swatik. Her family would like to express their sincere thanks to Chris Baker and her dedicated QC Home Care staff and to the staff at Hospice of Southeastern, CT. In keeping with her wishes, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Paul’s Church in Waterford, CT; St. Edward’s Church in Stafford Springs, CT; St. Bernard’s Church in Rockville, CT or St. Joseph’s Church in Rockville, CT. Relatives and friends may join the family on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 from 8:30 AM – 9:30 AM at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St., Rockville, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Church, Rockville at 10 AM. Burial will be held at St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Vernon.
