Obituary for Richard A Bowering

Richard A. Bowering of Tolland, CT passed away on September 19, 2017 at Rockville General Hospital surrounded by family. He was born in Boston, MA on April 4, 1934 to the late A. Stanley and Eleanor Knight Bowering, and grew up in Quincy, MA. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Robert C. Bowering, of California. He was a graduate of Quincy High School and Tufts University. At Tufts, he was a successful competitor in track and field. He began his career as an industrial salesman for various corporations and then spent more than 20 years working for Standard Register of Tolland before his retirement. With a lifelong interest in aviation, Dick was a private pilot and enjoyed flying experimental aircraft. He also enjoyed kayaking and spending time with his family. In Tolland, he was a member of the Board of Education and the Board of Recreation. He also competed in USATF Masters Track and Field for a number of years. Married for 61 years, Dick is survived by his wife, Julie, as well as his children: Denise Petrone of Vernon; Laura Bowering Mullen (Mark) of Cranbury, NJ; Richard A. Bowering, Jr. of Bridgeport; Stephen E. Bowering (Maria) of Ellington; and Lisa Cook (John) of Burlington. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Angelo Petrone, Julie Petrone, Nicole Petrone, Erin Donahue (Richard), Ryan Mullen, Michael Bowering (Elisa), Mary Bowering,Sarah Beeler(Rob), Olivia Bowering, Stephanie Bade (Andrew), and Tim Cook; along with great-grandchildren Angelo Petrone, Aria Petrone, Gia Fisher, and Henry Donahue. Calling hours are on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Tolland Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Merrow Road, Tolland, CT. A funeral Mass will take place on Monday, Sept. 25 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Church, Tolland and will be followed by burial at South Cemetery, Tolland.
