Alphonse Giglio, 90, of Bolton, loving and devoted husband of wife Evelyn (Farra) Giglio for 62 years, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 with his loving family at his side.
Al was born in Bolton on January 3, 1927, 10th of eleven children, to the late Irmia (Siani) and Michele Giglio. Raised on their dairy farm, Lyndale Farm, Al diligently tended field and herd. His other great passion was baseball. He was a first-class pitcher, drafted by the Brooklyn Dodgers, but was unable to fulfill his dream because he was needed on the farm. He lived to work and did so with devotion, passion and integrity well into his 80’s. He never missed a day, never complained, and was always there when needed. The consummate farmer. Al loved to watch his New York Yankees, root for the UConn Women’s basketball team, and listen to classic country music. He will be deeply missed.
Besides his wife, Al is survived by his children, Robin Giglio of Bolton and Amanda Olmstead and her husband Gary of Coventry; a grandson, Gregory Bub of Bolton; two step-granddaughters, Sarah (Evan) Goodness and children Andrew, Bella, and James of Cameron Park, CA and Kimberly (Brian) Dunn and daughter Avery of Columbia; a sister, Mary Denny of Bradenton, FL; three sisters-in-law, Arlene, Dot, and Rosemary Giglio; and many nieces, nephews and good friends. A special thanks to nephew Jim Giglio for his many caring visits from Florida and to Frank Gilnack for always being there. Also, a special thanks to the staffs of Visiting Nurse Assoc. of Vernon and Crestfield Rehab for taking such good care of Al.
Calling hours for family and friends will be Monday, June 19th from 10:30 AM until noon, at which time a brief service will be delivered, at the Coventry-Pietras Funeral Home, 2665 Boston Tpke.
