Obituary for William J. Cosgrove

William J. Cosgrove, 93, of Rockville, passed away on Monday, May 29, 2017. He went to his eternal home with a strong faith and an indomitable spirit. Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife of 65 years, Anna (Ozemko) Cosgrove. On the day of her funeral in 2013, he whispered in her ear, “I hope I’ll join you soon.” Now, a match made in heaven is reunited in heaven. Bill was born on January 20, 1924, to William and Jeanette Cosgrove, both of whom were of Irish descent. Rockville was the place Bill loved best and called home virtually all his life. He attended St. Bernard School and Rockville High School. Shortly after graduation, at the height of World War II, Bill left his hometown to serve in the United States Air Force, flying 34 missions over Europe as a radio operator/gunner on a B-17. After his tour of duty, Bill returned to Rockville and met the love of his life, Ann Ozemko of Hartford. On June 5, 1948, the two were married. Over the years, Bill worked as a mail clerk, construction laborer, plumber’s helper and office manager, but the roles he cherished most were those of husband and father. Bill is survived by the couple’s children and grandchildren: daughter Linda Bates and granddaughter Victoria of Hartford; son William Cosgrove, daughter-in-law Tonya and granddaughters Brianna and Tiffany of Vernon; and daughters Mary Cosgrove and Ann Cosgrove, both of Rockville. During his lifetime, Bill mourned not only the loss of his wife, but also that of his brother John and grandson Brian Cosgrove. Bill was a communicant of St. Bernard Church, where a Mass of Christian burial will be held, followed by burial at St. Bernard Cemetery. Arrangements are private and at the convenience of the family.
