Obituary for Nicholas Juliano

Nicholas Juliano
Nicholas Juliano, 90, of Ellington, beloved husband of Kathleen (Flaherty) Juliano passed away Monday, March 13, 2017. He was born July 31, 1926 in Hartford, the son of the late Daniel and Catherine (DePardo) Juliano. Nick served in the United States Navy during World War II on the USS Antietam. He worked for a brief time at the Aetna and then found his calling as a United States Postal Worker. During his 28 years of service delivering mail, Nick received recognition from the Postmaster for sustained special achievement as a "goodwill messenger of the government." He was also cited for heroism after stopping a moving car with a child inside from drifting into traffic while on his route. He was an avid Red Sox and Giants fan. His passions, beyond his love for his family, included bowling, every Clive Cussler novel ever written, and his ultimate quest for delicious food. He was a member of the Hilltoppers, a group of men who grew up together in the North End of Hartford and who faithfully attended annual reunions. For over 40 years Nick looked forward to the Sunday after Thanksgiving when he could reconnect and swap stories with his childhood friends. Nick shared a birthday with Harry Potter and J.K. Rowling, a fact of which he was inordinately proud. His abiding and deep faith showed in his willingness to always help others in need. Nick was an usher for many years at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Rockville. He was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Kathleen, for 63 years, a cherished father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and a warm and caring uncle to many nieces and nephews. Nick was, simply put, a great guy! Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Kathy and her husband Roger of Sedona, AZ; James and his wife Ellen of Windsor; and Mary and her husband Stuart of Suffield; his grandchildren, Julian, Jessica and Ryan; and his great-grandchild, Jaiden. He was predeceased by his sister Helen Little. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM on Monday, March 20, 2017 at St. Bernard’s Church, 25 St. Bernard Terrace, Rockville, CT 06066. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. For online condolences please visit:www.pietrasfuneralhome.com
