Obituary for Barbara Racicot

Barbara Racicot
Barbara (Dennehy) Racicot, 83, of Tolland, beloved wife of Joseph T Racicot, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 27, 2016. She was the daughter of the late Philip F and Mary C Dennehy. She was born in Boston, MA and raised in Brighton, MA. She graduated from Brighton High School in 1951 and then attended Boston Clerical School before taking time off to travel. In addition to her husband of 54 years, Barbara is survived by her son, David; daughter Wendy Brennan and her husband, Jay; daughter Suzanne and her husband, Andrew Royce; and son Douglas and his wife, Carrie Ann. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Saraid, Kiernan, Meaghan, Fiona, Joshua, Ailish, and Caitlin. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Alphonse Anzivino; brother and sister-in-law, Philip and Rosemary Dennehy; brother and sister-in-law, John (Jack) and Carol Dennehy and nephew John Z Dennehy. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends. She enjoyed raising her family, especially summers spent in Ogunquit, ME and Cape Cod, MA. She was an avid fan of UCONN Women's Basketball and the many performances she saw at the Bushnell Center for Performing Arts. She enjoyed traveling with friends throughout Europe, with her favorite travel moment being kissing The Blarney Stone. She was an active communicant of St Matthew's Church where she taught Religious Education for over 10 years and was a Eucharistic Minister for over 20 years. Her faith was extremely important to her and gave her the strength to courageously live with lung cancer for almost five years. Relatives and friends may join the family on Friday, December 30, 2016 between 4:00pm and 7:00pm at the Tolland Funeral Home, 375 Merrow Road, Tolland, CT. A mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at 10:00am at St Matthew's Church, 111 Tolland Green, Tolland. To honor Barbara, please wear her favorite color, blue. Burial will follow at South Cemetery in Tolland.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Rathmann and his team at the Cancer Center, St Francis Hospital; the staff of ECHN Visiting Nurse & Health Services of CT; and the staff at the Residence at South Windsor Farms for their care and compassion for Barbara.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Alzheimer's Association or, because she loved visits with family and friends so much, spend some time with someone you haven't seen in awhile.
