Obituary for Elba Josefina Famiglietti

Elba Josefina Famiglietti
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elba Josefina Famiglietti, 80, beloved wife of Modestino Famiglietti, on Sunday, October 30, 2016. She was born August 28, 1936 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, daughter of Jose and Josefa (Ferreyra) Martinez. Besides her loving husband, Modestino, of 57 years, she is survived by her children - Sonia Finnegan and her husband, Waldron of Tolland, Dr. Nancy Testa and her husband, Sebastian of East Hartford, and Sergio Famiglietti and his partner, Nicholas Arsenault of South Windsor. She leaves her grandchildren - Claudia Imperati and her husband, Anthony of Cheshire, Christopher Testa of Brooklyn, NY, Olivia Finnegan of Tolland; and her great-grandaughter, Angelina Imperati of Cheshire. Elba is also survived by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Severina and Luis Vodopivec, Angelo and Michelina Famiglietti, and Teresa Paldino, all of Connecticut, and a sister,Yolanda Martinez, brothers Jose Martinez and Alberto Martinez, sister-in-law Gina Famiglietti, all of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Elba leaves countless nieces, nephews, and Godchildren from the United States, Argentina and Italy whom she loved so very much, as well as many cherished extended family members and good friends that she gathered along the way. Elba also leaves her best friends Luisa Famiglietti, Grace Grimaldi and Esther Ronchese. Along with her parents, Elba was predeceased by a sister, Amelia Martinez, sisters-in-law Hilda Martinez and Giuseppina Famiglietti, brothers-in-law Antonio Famiglietti and Francesco Famiglietti, all of Argentina, as well as brother-in-law Carlos Paldino of Connecticut. Elba lived in Argentina where she met the love of her life, Modestino, later moving to the United States in 1961. They first made their home in Hartford, but later moved to East Hartford, South Windsor, and lastly, Tolland. Elba worked tirelessly in the family tailoring, dry-cleaning, and the dress factory businesses, while balancing life's demands. She also enjoyed being a member of the St. Christopher Ladies' Guild with her friends. Elba was a loving wife to her husband and a loving mother to her family, providing them with unconditional love and endless support. She was a homemaker at heart, enjoying making their home a beautiful and welcoming place, especially at the holidays. Elba was an excellent knitter, crocheter and embroiderer, famous for creating and gifting these true works of art at wedding and baby showers. Elba also knew how to throw a party for every imaginable occasion - at which you were guaranteed to find a big batch of her delicious homemade alfajor cookies and her exceptional flan. She also had a personal flair for fashion, and getting her hair done at Riccardo's was a weekly revitalizing ritual. Elba enjoyed spending time at the casino attending shows and playing the slots; her famous line "Where else can old people like us go to have some fun?" gave everyone a chuckle. Elba was a huge supporter of UCONN Women's Basketball and never missed watching a game. She also was a lover of all types of music - the louder it was, the more fun she had. Elba enjoyed the loving companionship of her pets throughout the years. Elba's legacy is a treasure trove of fond family memories. Her grandchildren were her special pride and joy, whom she spoiled with her grandmotherly love. Her immeasurable spirit will live in us forever. The family wishes to extend our heartfelt thanks for the tremendous care-giving provided by the ER, ICU, and hospice doctors and nursing staff at Manchester Memorial Hospital and the doctors, nurses and rehabilitation team at Woodlake at Tolland. Elba was treated with such dignity and love by all. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, November 3rd, at St. Matthew's Church, 111 Tolland Green, Tolland. Burial will be private. For online condolences, please visit www.pietrasfuneralhome.com. The family welcomes donations to the charity of your choice. They also ask that you send prayers to the Virgen de Lourdes with whom Elba felt a special devotion.
