Lyda (Wallace) Sutherland, 90, of Vernon, beloved wife of the late Bertrand Sutherland, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 10, 2016 with her family by her side. She was born September 12, 1925 in Crystal, ME, daughter of the late Whitney and Alice (McGrath) Wallace. She was a member of the Union Congregational Church in Rockville for over 50 years. Lyda worked for House of Lloyd for 18 years where she was able to do some traveling with her daughter, Linda to Ireland and England. She enjoyed quilting for her family in her spare time. Lyda was the glue of the family, to her, family was everything. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Charles Ross Sutherland and Judy of Storrs, John Adelbert Sutherland and Kathy of Steuben, ME, Linda Louise Sutherland of Vernon, Whitney Russell Sutherland and Debbie of Bear, DE, her adopted daughter, Patricia Stauder of Vernon. She also leaves Maxine Wallace of Houlton, ME as well as eight grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Lyda would like to give special thanks to Flora Batz who read to her faithfully once a week. Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family from 10 – 11 AM on Monday, May 16, 2016 at the Union Congregational Church, 3 Elm St., Rockville, CT 06066 with a funeral service immediately following at 11 AM. Burial will follow at Grove Hill Cemetery, Vernon. Memorial contributions can be made to the Union Congregational Church in lieu of flowers.
